Youtube’s New Live Streaming Policy
The famous google-run platform, youtube has recently put a new rule in place, leaving most users furios. What is this policy? When a youtuber with less than 1,000 subscribers goes to livestream on a mobile device, this message pops up “Your channel does not meet our updated eligibility requirements for mobile live streaming. You can still stream with your webcam for broadcasting software.” Why is this policy put into place? Well Google believes that this might lower the chance of violent content being broadcasted to youtube, like a recent shooting in a church. But couldn’t channels with less subscribers do that? The answer to that is yes, and many people are voicing at how unfair this all is. As a google user Dave Selura said “This is a wretched move. It does nothing but stifle smaller channel growth and limit lives to the larger channels. It’s a money move plain and simple. Restrict as much as possible for all except the changes YouTube can get as money on. I have 345 subs and not looking at how to migrate my channel and subscribers to a new platform. Maybe periscope for live stuff, which is 99%of what I do.”
This opinion was also voiced by Mark H. “This new policy is horrible. I use mobile live-streaming literally for my son's baseball games and no longer can do that.” Many others told google the same story, that they used the live stream to interact with friends, live a sporting event and even film a mass, helping those who can not go to church worship at home. In all this is a very unfair movie by youtube and the community hopes that this ban is soon removed.
